Context and challenge

In 2022, governments around the world committed to protecting at least 30% of the ocean by 2030 (30×30) through the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. Achieving this ambitious target requires sustained collaboration between governments, NGOs, funders, scientists and campaigners, alongside a shared public narrative that can build momentum, accountability and action.

Greenhouse was appointed to create and grow Together for the Ocean, developing the strategy, brand and communications platform that united a global coalition behind a shared vision for ocean protection. Designed to be owned and amplified by partners worldwide, the campaign continues to support advocacy, public engagement and international policy action towards the 30×30 goal.

Our approach and strategy

Rather than delivering a single campaign, we created an integrated communications platform that partners could use across policy moments, global summits and national campaigns.

The approach centred on convening and narrative-building, bringing together diverse global actors around a shared vision. This included:

  • • Developing the Together for the Ocean brand, positioning and messaging
  • • Creating a flexible visual identity and campaign toolkit for partners
  • • Building the website, digital assets and campaign materials
  • • Producing reports, films, social content and creative campaigns
  • • Coordinating earned, owned, paid and partner communications
  • • Supporting major international moments including the UN Ocean Conference and Our Ocean Conference
  • • Creating high-impact creative activations that connected policy with public engagement

The strategy focused on creating momentum that could travel beyond individual events and into policy conversations.

Outcomes and impact

Today, Together for the Ocean unites over 25 leading organisations behind the marine 30×30 target.

Greenhouse created a distinctive brand that helped the campaign stand out across the ocean conservation sector, supported by influencer partnerships, NGO collaborations and high-profile activations such as the Lime Bikes #ForTheOcean campaign.

We have developed and launched flagship advocacy products in collaboration with partners, including the Marine 30×30 Data Dashboard and Ocean Protection Gap Report, turning complex data into compelling resources for policymakers, partners and the public.

Greenhouse led the communications campaign around the Ocean Protection Gap Report, exposing the finance gap to deliver 30×30 in the ocean, while coordinating more than 25 campaign partners to maximise visibility and influence.

Our Ocean Conference

Extending ocean advocacy beyond the conference

For the Our Ocean Conference in Kenya, Greenhouse delivered an integrated communications campaign that positioned Together for the Ocean at the heart of one of the world’s most influential ocean policy events. To keep marine protection front of mind beyond the conference venue, we created a large-scale airport takeover across Nairobi and Mombasa, transforming arrival and departure spaces into campaign touchpoints.

Supported by media relations, influencer partnerships, paid social and partner communications, the campaign amplified African leadership in ocean conservation and ensured delegates encountered the Together for the Ocean message from the moment they arrived through to their departure.

Highlights

  • • Airport takeover across Nairobi and Mombasa
  • • 30+ bespoke artworks and campaign assets
  • • Digital screens, wayfinding and QR-enabled activations
  • • Media office and international press engagement
  • • Influencer partnerships and paid social campaigns
  • • Partner coordination and content production
  • • 500K estimated airport audience reached

Marine 30×30 Data Dashboard

To help policymakers, advocates and partners understand progress towards the global goal of protecting 30% of the ocean by 2030, Greenhouse designed and launched the Marine 30×30 Data Dashboard as part of the Together for the Ocean campaign.

Working alongside technical partners, we translated complex global datasets into an accessible digital experience that enables users to explore marine protection, finance, policy commitments and High Seas Treaty progress through clear, interactive visualisations.

Alongside the dashboard itself, we developed the creative campaign promoting the platform across LinkedIn, paid search and display advertising. The campaign combined bold creative, data-led messaging and targeted digital advertising to drive awareness, encourage exploration and equip partners with downloadable assets to amplify the findings.

Highlights

  • • Designed and launched the Marine 30×30 Data Dashboard.
  • • Created a suite of digital advertising assets and social campaigns.
  • • Developed partner toolkits and downloadable campaign resources.
  • • Delivered paid media campaigns across LinkedIn, Google Search and display advertising.

  • The dashboard has become a central resource for the sector, helping turn global ocean data into an accessible tool for policymakers, campaigners and partners.
  • Across multiple digital campaigns, Greenhouse drove sustained engagement with the platform while encouraging users to explore, download and share its resources.
